Success Stories

Adult Day Services Participants:

Brady came to RCS from a small county high school in November of 2005. He has a 1:1 aide (actually he has 2 of them that take turns!) to help him throughout his day. Brady attends full time with a schedule that includes work, art, creative writing, sports, music/dance, and cooking. Brady has a computer that he uses to gather information for his classes. He likes to look up sports facts and current events. In addition to class time Brady enjoys tasting the food from his cooking class, coffee and Skybox outings and all of the parties.  As he says "RCS has a party for everything"!

When asked about highlights of his time he mentioned spending a couple of days at the "Extreme Home Makeover" site and getting to meet and have his picture taken with Michael and Preston, having his art in the art show, going to the Bucks game and being in the play. Brady has a large group of fans that come each year to see him in the play including former classmates and teachers as well as family and friends.

Joe has overcome some of the challenges he faces with autism. He initially came to RCS with a one on one aide and no longer needs that aide. He has grown from being primarily non-verbal to displaying appropriate workplace behavior and being an active participant in his programming. He works 40 hours per week performing subcontract work at RCS North Plant.

Chris was promoted to a Model Worker 1 position after being a North Plant participant for years. Chris has been assigned to run the screw machine. This is a very important position because it fulfills a need for one of RCS's major contracts. RCS depends on Chris to transport meals and mail between the North Plant and Main Plant each day. Chris possesses a strong work ethic, has excellent attendance, and good quality of work. Chris no longer needs case management services or monitoring of his medication by RCS staff. Chris drives his own car and travels to RCS daily from Plymouth where he lives independently.

Mai transitioned to RCS Day Services in 2003 from high school.  She started with a full schedule of classes and activities such as Art Therapy, Healthy Cooking, and Grooming that she found very interesting and exciting and looked forward to attending each week.  Mai also elected to work, which she really enjoyed and took pride in as this allowed her the opportunity to earn a paycheck and contribute towards the same things that other members of her family did.  Through RCS, Mai has also had opportunities to be in the community and do things like get her hair cut and styled, purchase things that she has wanted, and experience fun things like fishing and camp.  She has taken part in the annual play production since she started at RCS, which she loves as evidenced by the huge smile on her face at each performance.  One of Mai's many talents is art.  She has entered her paintings and drawings in Very Special Arts as well as the annual RCS art show and has won ribbons and even sold some of her artwork!  Over the years Mai has also made many friends that she communicates with by writing and signing.  Since her primary way of communicating is American Sign Language, she assists others in learning in her Sign Language and Communication classes.  Mai hopes to take a trip with RCS out of state some day as well as she continues to become a more independent individual.
